Synopsis
Sponsored by the Alfred Mizzi Foundation. The Knights of the Order of Saint John set a trend for the higher social classes to build villas outside the walls of the fortified cities. The basic idea of the villa suburban was to have a home away from home, a villa di delizia, for the relaxation of body and mind. Essentially to satisfy the ‘psychological and ideological needs of its patron.
