Synopsis 

Casa Manresa today houses the Archbishop’s Curia. It was however created as a retreat home. Its refectory has works by a certain Leonetti, about whom little is know. This lecture will shed light on his possible identity.

 

Speaker 

Dr. Mark A. Sammut Sassi (1973) has studied history at Oxford University, Western European legal history at the University of London, historical sociology at the London School of Economics, and international relations at the University of Leicester, as well as law and translation studies at the University of Malta. He has published A Short History of Latvia (Malta, 2004), Il-Liġi, il-Morali, u r-Raġuni [Law, Morality, and Reason] with the late Professor Giuseppe Mifsud Bonnici (Malta, 2008), The Law of Consular Relations (UK, 2010), Malta at the European Court of Human Rights 1987-2012 with former Judge Giovanni Bonello, Professor Kevin Aquilina et al. (Malta, 2012), Essays on Maltese Legal History and Comparative Law Vol. I (UK, 2017), as well as essays (on Maltese history and legal history) that have appeared in Malta and in Britain, and has most recently co-authored an entry on the History of Criminal Law for an enclycopedia on history of law. He is currently working on the translation of Paolo Grossi’s L’Ordine Giuridico Medievale [The Medieval Legal Order]. He translates articles on behalf of the Italian geopolitical review LIMES for Geopolitical Futures (USA). He regularly writes op-eds for Maltese newspapers, usually of a polemical nature. He is a member of the Malta Historical Society, the Società italiana di storia del diritto, the European Society for the History of Law, and the European Society for Comparative Legal History, and is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and of the Society of Advanced Legal Studies. He lectured on the History of the Maltese Criminal Code at the Faculty of Laws of the University of Malta from 2014 to 2016.
